Day 6: Luang Prabang - Pak Ou Cave – Koungsi Water Fall (B)

In the morning, we will Today we start a full day city tour starting in the morning after breakfast embarking for a slow boat trip to Pak Ou caves 32km up-river and along the way stop to visit the Lao whisky village and see the process how villagers make the potent Lau Lao (rice whisky) then continue on board to the cave where a thousand Buddha images are kept. After visiting the cave back downstream to Luangprabang for a typical Lao lunch.

The Roluos group lies 15km (10 miles) southwest of Siem Reap and includes three temples - Bakong, PrahKo and Lolei - dating from the late 9th century and corresponding to the ancient capital of Hariharalaya, from which the name of Lolei is derived. Remains include 3 well-preserved early temples that venerated the Hindu gods. The bas-reliefs are some of the earliest surviving examples of Khmer art. Modern-day villages surround the temples. Unlike Ta Prohm, however, Preah Khan is in a reasonable state of preservation and ongoing restoration efforts should maintain and even improve this situation. Continue your visit to NeakPean, a fountain (built in the middle of a pool and representing the paradisiacal Himalayan mountain-lake), Ta Som, Eastern Mebon, guarded at its corner by stone figures of harnessed elephants, some of which are still in a reasonable state of preservation, and Pre Rup, the mountain-temple until sunset.
